Food and Meals
Group meals:
We do offer group meals on an 'almost' daily basis. The evening meal is announced
each day, as applicable. We put it on a white board in the Lodge every morning.
Typical dinners include spaghetti with meatballs, lasagna, barbecue 'something' - ribs,
burgers, chicken, pork, catch of the day, coconut/curry chicken (mild), panamanian
chicken dish (it's good). We've been told by patrons who've stayed at some of our
competing hotels that our food and atmosphere was the best in their experience in
Bocas.... We have also built kitchenettes in all the houses and apartments and
provided cooking utensils to allow you to cook at your own pace, or your own diet.
Breakfast is served between 7 to 10am - Pancakes, eggs any style, fruit, toast, coffee
- $6 pp.
Lunch is served between 12 to 3pm - Deli stuff, leftovers (1/2 price), grilled cheese,
soup of the day. The usual lunch stuff with chips, drink. - $7pp or less, really depends
on what you get.
Dinner is served at 6:30 pm, right at sunset. Price for dinner varies between $8 to $12,
depending on what is served - includes a salad, drink and dessert.
All meals you can prepay with your reservation, or prepay for a few meals only.
Shop when you get here:
Upon your arrival, one of our drivers will bring you by a couple of preferred shopping
spots. There you can buy things for a few days. Please pick up some ice, as we go
through it quickly at the Lodge. You will have shared cold storage space available with
your lodging. Recommendation: Come out to the Lodge first and have dinner
and review the concessions, etc. If you'd like to shop the next day, do so, or
have us pick it up for you - stay on vacation. Shopping in Bocas is more of an
art than a science. We know where to find things and won't burn most of your
vacation day looking for something.
We can stock it for you:
If you prefer, we can stock food in your room/home in advance. Just let us know what
you'd like us to pickup in advance and we'll have it ready for you. The charge for the
food is food cost + $10 per hour.
Lodge concession stand:
We maintain a concession stand stocked with most staple items. (Rice, pastas, beans,
eggs, cereal, coffee, pancake mix, bread, tea, condiments, cookies, chips, soft drinks,
wine and booze (by the bottle)) We also maintain some frozen stock of hamburger,
chicken, ham, bacon, cheeses) If there's something you forgot or want, we can put it on
the next town run list to pickup.
Kitchens and Barbecues:
All the rooms have kitchens and cooking utensils. We also have gas barbecues
available in the ground floor patio for chicken, burgers, 'catch of the day', etc.
Restaurants:
There is a great outdoor seafood restaurant called 'Yarisnori' about 3 miles from the
Lodge. It's down at the end of the Drago beach. It has great food and great sunsets,
plus the beer is very cold....We recommend you try the restaurant once or twice in a
one week stay. They normally have lobster, shrimp and red snapper, plus the catch of
the day. There are also non seafood options.
Many people enjoy walking down, driving or bike riding to the restaurant and go right
around the corner to 'starfish beach'. The beach looks very "Gilligan's island". There
are starfish in the shallow water and the water is normally beautiful and clear. On your
way back, stop at the restaurant for dinner and catch a cab back to the Lodge. They
also have single and double kayaks you can rent by the hour. (One of our guests, last
year, was paddling with dolphins.)
Dinner in town:
There are a handful of restaurants that are worth the drive to town, namely 'Lemon
Grass', 'El Pecado', 'Ultimo Refugio' and 'Buena Vista'. These are our
favorites.....There are other local choices but the meals can be hit or miss and not
necessarily 'trip worthy'. It is worth dinner in town once or twice in a week stay, but try
and combine it with a 'boat tour' day and have dinner in town before you return to the
Lodge that evening. A taxi to town is $25 each way for up to 4 persons, more if you pile
in the back of the pickup also.....Often groups plan a town night together and
coordinate the logistics with one of our drivers or rent one of our vehicles.
Group meals:
We will continue to offer group meals few times per week. A typical meal could be 1)
Italian (Pasta, salad, garlic bread), 2) Soy sauce and garlic BBQ chicken, salad, bread,
3) Panamanian chicken, rice and lentils, 4) Mexican night (make your own concoction),
5) Coconut/curry chicken, rice, salad, etc.....
